• Duties: Summary
About the Position:
This is a full-time civilian position at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA, as provided under Title 10 USC 4021. Initial appointment may be up to 3 years, with the first year a trial period. The appointment may be renewed in one to five year increments thereafter. Academic rank and salary will be based on the selectee's academic credentials, experience, and professional accomplishments.
Responsibilities
• Design, implement, and evaluate faculty development programs on topics related to curriculum design, instructional strategies, educational technology, and student assessment.
• Support faculty in all facets of teaching, in multiple modalities (online, hybrid, face-to-face, etc.).
• Lead the multi-day New Faculty Development program by planning session content, developing associated materials, coordinating logistical support, and synchronizing outcomes with stakeholders.
• Supervise a team of between 2-10 instructional systems specialists, information technologists, and postdoctoral fellows.
• Through research and relationship-building, aggressively seek out, assess, and implement emerging educational concepts and technology, including liaising with vendors.
• Consult on and participate in special projects and educational research, to include summarizing findings and making recommendations for future curricula and programming.
• Assist with accreditation activities.
• Participate in occasional institutional site visits and academic conferences.
• Conduct research and internal/external service.
• Perform other duties as directed by supervisors.

The U.S. Army War College seeks a Director of Educational Methodology with expertise and leadership experience to guide a team in administering the institutional faculty development program (to include the multi-day New Faculty Development program), curricular initiatives, and special projects. The Director serves as the institution's chief subject matter expert in educational methodology, educational technology, and related topics and shares this expertise at individual, departmental, and institutional levels both formally and informally through relationship-building, consulting, teaching, and service on various advisory groups. The Director of Educational Methodology is a faculty position. Applicants must possess expertise in educational support at the college or university level.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated based on the criteria listed below by a panel of subject matter experts appointed with the purpose of identifying the best qualified candidates.
• Earned graduate degree from an accredited institution in a discipline relevant to education, such as higher education, curriculum and instruction, instructional technology, or educational psychology. While a terminal degree is preferred, candidates within six months of completing a Ph.D. or Ed.D. are encouraged to apply.
• Evidence of experience designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating faculty development programs at the institutional level.
• Ability to model and teach best practices in instruction with an emphasis on the purposeful use of educational technology.
• Ability to produce high-quality and peer-reviewed research, writing, and presentations related to the scholarship of teaching and learning that bridges the gap between theory and practice.
• Expertise in research methodology (to include quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research), psychometrics, and data visualization is valued.
• Exceptional interpersonal, written communication, and oral communication skills in complex, dynamic, and interdisciplinary environments.
• Ability to work collegially with diverse (military, civilian, international) graduate students, faculty, staff, and administrators and foster connections with networks external to the institution.
• Evidence of experience supervising highly qualified and distributed teams.
