The Library & Museum of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia invites applications for postdoctoral, predoctoral, and short-term research fellowships for projects pertaining to Native American and Indigenous Studies, Early American History & Culture, and the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine.
The Library & Museum’s collections make it among the premier institutions for documenting and exhibiting the history of the American Revolution and founding, the history of science from Newton to NASA, Native American languages and culture, and the development of American anthropology. The Library & Museum houses over 14 million manuscripts; 275,000 volumes of printed materials and bound periodicals; 250,000 images, fine art, and other objects; thousands of maps and prints; and more than 3,500 hours of audio recordings of Native American languages.

Native American and Indigenous Studies
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Native American Scholars Initiative Postdoctoral Fellowship
(deadline: Friday, January 29, 2021 11:59 p.m. EST).
This 12-month residential fellowship is intended for a recent Ph.D., professor at any level seeking sabbatical support for a research project, or an independent scholar working closely with an Indigenous community on a project. A stipend in the $45-60K range and the option for health benefits will be awarded to the successful applicant.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Native American Scholars Initiative Predoctoral Fellowship
(deadline: Friday, January 29, 2021 11:59 p.m. EST).
This 12-month or 6-month fellowship is intended for advanced Ph.D. students working toward the completion of the dissertation. Applicants will receive a stipend of $25,000 to support twelve months of work and $12,500 to support six months of work on topics pertaining to Native American and Indigenous Studies and related fields. Two fellowships will be awarded in 2021-2022 -- one 12-month and one 6-month. Applicants will be asked to specify their preference in Interfolio.

Indigenous Community Research Fellowship

These short-term fellowships support research by Indigenous community members, elders, teachers, knowledge keepers, tribal officials, traditional leaders, museum and archive professionals, scholars, and others, regardless of academic background, seeking to examine materials at the APS Library & Museum in support of Indigenous community-based priorities.
