The University of Denver's (DU) History Department offers history courses to undergraduate students in a variety of different geographical areas and periods, taught by our twelve faculty members. Our classes are writing and reading intensive with lively in-class discussions, and opportunities to participate in hands-on historical research, service-learning projects, and internships. Faculty and students appreciate the small class sizes and close relationships they develop. All of our 80-100 history majors are required to engage in a senior capstone project - 25-30 page thesis based on primary source research and integration of secondary source materials - rigorous endeavor that provides students with the opportunity to learn about, and participate in, the historical field. The Department of History is strongly committed to building a diverse and inclusive educational environment in accord with the value that DU places on its commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion. Candidates must demonstrate ability to integrate content and issues relating to, and to work effectively with, ethnically/racially diverse populations.
The History Department at the University of Denver invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the history of Africa or African diaspora, period open. The appointment for this position is intended to begin in September 2021. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research, and service. This includes candidates from underrepresented groups, those who have experience working with diverse student populations, and those with experience and versatility in inclusive pedagogy.
- The successful candidate will teach a broad range of introductory- and upper-level courses to history majors and the undergraduate population at DU.
- The successful candidate will also guide undergraduate theses on a broad variety of topics related to the candidates field of expertise.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion through their teaching, research and service.
- ABD, with a Ph.D. in a related field required by the start of the appointment. A candidate hired at the ABD level will hold the title and rank of instructor until completion of degree.
- Ph.D. in a related field.
- University teaching experience.
