The History Department in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in the field of Public History and U.S. History. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.
Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities include upper-level and graduate courses in Public History as well as in the candidate’s area of expertise in U.S. History. Position will teach U.S. History survey courses and required major courses in historical research, writing, and historiography, as well as graduate courses. The standard teaching load is four 3-hour classes per term (12 credit hours per semester). In addition to instruction, faculty have mentoring responsibilities, an expectation to assist the department and university with committee work, and must maintain a record of scholarly activity.
Required Qualifications:
• Required qualifications include a PhD in History
• Willingness to deliver instruction online
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
• Research/teaching in some aspect of the history of the American South, history of American Women, and/or modern U.S. History
• Candidates who explore issues of ethnicity, race, and/or gender in their teaching and research
• A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting
• A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds

The department also participates in an innovative dual degree program that enables students to earn both a B.A. in History and B.S.Ed. in Secondary Education in as few as 126 hours.
