The Department of History and Political Science at Barry University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of History with a specialization in American History, a secondary specialization in another regional history, and the ability to teach a required first-year class on world history since 1900.
The Department offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in History, International Studies, and Pre-Law, and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. The programs also support the Africana Studies, Peace Studies, and Social Science Education minors.
Applicants should submit a letter of interest that addresses their teaching philosophy and experience teaching students of diverse backgrounds, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and a graduate transcript by December 11, 2020. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
The position begins August 2021
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach effectively, to be an active student advisor, to engage in productive scholarship, and to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

The applicant will also support the Pre-Law program through advising and teaching
The course load is 12 credits per semester.
Additional duties include academic advising, professional service within the department, university, and the community, and ongoing contributions to research and scholarship.
The position requires a PhD in History.
Prior teaching experience is expected. Experience with Pre-Law or Legal Studies is desirable.
Excellent communication skills, evidence of mentoring undergraduate research, and wide interest in history, law, and global affairs are essential. Experience with developing and teaching distance courses is welcomed.
