Simon Fraser University, Global Asia - History
TERM LECTURER IN GLOBAL ASIAN STUDIES
|Institution Type:||College / University|
|Location:||British Columbia, Canada|
The Global Asia Program and the Department of History at Simon Fraser University invite applications for a part-time one-year term appointment in Global Asian studies at the rank of Lecturer. Specialization is open. There is a possibility for an extension of the appointment for a second year, subject to budget availability.
The position starts September 1, 2020. The successful candidate will annually teach four courses over three semesters (SFU operates year-round, with Fall, Spring, and Summer terms). Three courses will be taught in the Global Asia Program, including the Introduction to Global Asia (GA101) survey; the fourth course will be in Middle Eastern or Asian history. Courses beyond GA101 will be assigned according to the successful candidate's areas of specialization.
Please note that teaching at SFU in the fall term 2020 will be conducted through remote methods. The requirement to conduct teaching through remote methods may also extend past the fall term and possibly for the duration of the appointment. It is the responsibility of the instructor to adapt their teaching to these unusual circumstances. Assistance with adapting to these changes will be available from the Centre for Educational Excellence.
As a member of the SFU Faculty Association (SFUFA) and the Global Asia Program, the Lecturer may also be expected to participate in the life of the units. The ideal candidate will have a completed Ph.D. in a field related to Global Asia studies and experience teaching at the university level to a broadly diverse student body.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents will be given priority. SFU is an equity employer and encourages applications from all qualified individuals including women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, Indigenous Peoples, people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of the university.
This is an entry-level term position. Only those holding or those eligible to be appointed to the rank will be considered. The position is subject to availability of funding.
Review of applications will begin on June 16, 2020, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a teaching portfolio (including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample teaching materials, and course evaluations), and full course outlines for GA101. They should also arrange for three letters of recommendations. All application materials should be submitted electronically to email@example.com.
Under the authority of the University Act, personal information that is required by the University for academic appointment competitions will be collected. For further details see: http://www.sfu.ca/vpacademic/Faculty_Openings/Collection_Notice.html
