Applications are invited for the above full time post of lecturer (wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in). The position is attached to the chair professorship of Prof. Dominic Sachsenmaier, and it is based at the Department of East Asian Studies at Göttingen University. The successful candidate will be appointed for three years, and after this period there is a possibility of an extension for another three years. The salary level follows the 13 TV-L scale of the German State of Lower Saxony.
The job profile includes independent research, some administrative tasks for the Department of East Asian Studies, the participation in – mostly international – research projects, and teaching responsibilities (according to § 31 NHG). Successful candidates are also expected to make additional contributions to the following area of research: Chinese history and its transnational/ global historical entanglements.
Application requirements: applicants should have a highly qualified Ph.D in East Asian Studies/Chinese Studies, History or any other relevant field. Their main area of research should cover an aspect of modern China (17th – 21st centuries) and its transnational/global historical entanglements. The candidates should be ready to contribute to already existing research projects and networks; in addition, they should be inclined to participate in the buildup of new ones. They also should have some experience with teaching and academic publishing and excellent skills in Standard Chinese and English. A solid command of German is not a requirement but the candidates should be willing and able to acquire these skills in the near future. Individuals with significant international experiences and innovative research projects are particularly encouraged to apply. Moreover, applicants should have already demonstrated excellent skills as students and/or postdoctoral scholars. This lecturer position will support the qualification of junior scholars which includes the possibility (albeit not a requirement) to pursue a postdoctoral habilitation as it is offered in the German academic system.
