The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates for the position of Middle School Humanities Teacher for the 2020-2021 academic year.
The ideal candidate is a warm, creative, charismatic educator, who loves working with sixth graders and has expertise in and passion for both literacy and social studies content. This position will work as a member of a collaborative team in the English and History departments. The ideal educator will continue to develop interdisciplinary curriculum, utilize project-based assessments, and best meet the needs of individual students through differentiated instruction. Leading candidates will have a strong background in differentiated instruction and teaching executive functioning skills in the classroom as well as strong classroom management. Exemplary candidates will have a record of providing appropriate scaffolding and interventions targeting various academic and social-emotional skills, with a particular focus on reading and writing. Strong candidates have demonstrated success in partnering with learning support staff and parents in addition to integrating positive behavior management in neuro-diverse classrooms. The ideal candidate’s classroom is one that features a strong emphasis on student-centered learning to best develop critical thinking and analytical as well as creative writing skills.
- Teaching 6th grade humanities, an interdisciplinary English language arts and social studies curriculum;
- Providing scaffolded, learning experiences to students targeted development of reading and writing skills;
- Participating in team meetings to discuss student progress.
Qualifications include a minimum of a BA in English, History or secondary education (focus in social studies, English, history or humanities) or a related field. An MA degree is preferred. Candidates should have at least three years of successful teaching experience in collaborative working environments.
