Middle East History. Wesleyan University’s History Department invites applications for a visiting assistant professor to teach the history of the Middle East. The position will run from September 1, 2020 until May 31, 2021. Teaching responsibilities for visiting professors at Wesleyan are a 2-3 teaching load (apportionment to be decided at time of appointment) and will include the History of the Middle East survey and 1-2 courses on Islam or Islamic Civilization. Teaching might include supervision of undergraduate senior theses, essays, or research projects
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in history or related field in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as a Visiting Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as a Visiting Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Interviews for finalists will be conducted via Skype or Zoom.
You will be asked to upload electronic versions of the items we require, which are (1) a cover letter of application, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) writing sample, and (4) teaching statement. As part of the teaching statement (or cover letter), we invite you to describe your cultural competencies, experiences engaging a diverse student body.
You will also be asked to provide the email addresses of three referees from whom we may obtain confidential letters of recommendation (please double-check the accuracy of the email addresses of the referees you name to insure that you have the most up-to-date email addresses for each one).
After you have submitted all of the required documents, you will see a confirmation number. At that point, each of your referees whose email address you have provided will receive an automatically-generated email requesting that he or she submit a letter of reference for you.
