Position Summary:
The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, Alaska, invites applications for a two-year term position as Assistant Professor of History to begin in Fall 2020.

The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, Alaska, invites applications for a two-year term position as Assistant Professor of History to begin in Fall 2020.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
- PhD in History or related field
- Ability to teach world history survey courses, historical methods/historiography courses
- Ability to teach upper division upper-level history courses in areas of applicant’s interest and specialization, subject to student interest and needs
- Ability to offer survey courses in the Social Sciences
- Demonstrated potential for undergraduate teaching excellence
Desired Characteristics
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following characteristics:
- Ability to offer interdisciplinary courses in areas such as indigeneity and decolonization; Atlantic and Pacific worlds; or world environmental, social, and cultural history
- Ability to teach in interdisciplinary departments and programs, with faculty from a variety of Social Science, Natural Science, and Humanities fields
- Experience working with first generation students, non-traditional students, Native American/Alaska Native/American Indian, and other diverse student groups
- Experience teaching courses in an online/distance or blended/hybrid learning environment
- Willingness to deliver effective undergraduate instruction in Southeast Alaska, the cultural homeland of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples.
