As of 1 August 2020, a professorship in the field of media science will become available at the Department for the Study of Culture (IKV), Faculty of Humanities, University of Southern Denmark in Odense.
The qualification level for associate professors must correspond to the level that can be obtained on the basis of employment as an assistant professor but can also be obtained in other ways. Candidates must document research competence within the core areas of media science, such as media theory, media history, media culture and media analysis.
More specifically, the department is primarily interested in candidates with research authority and experience preferably in several of the following areas:
- Media creation processes - including script development
- Forms of media use - including network media and digital participation
- Production processes in the media industry
- Creativity and innovation
- Web & interaction design
- Technology as experience
- Digital methodology
The associate professor is attached to the media science programmes and shall therefore play a key role in the continued development of the academic environment surrounding. The associate professor is expected to be able to teach a broad range of topics within the faculty's media science programmes and disciplines.
It is crucial that the associate professor is able to actively participate in interdisciplinary projects both within and outside the department, and candidates are asked to explain how they can contribute to the department’s research profile.
It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in applications for external funding, sit on the evaluation committee and administrative council and collaborate with external parties.

Application, salary and conditions of employment, etc.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish).
If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months.

Applicants for an associate professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Please read more here.
Application and all appendices must be in Danish, English or one of the Scandinavian languages. Please always include a copy of original diploma/certificates. We only accept files in pdf-format no more than 10 MB per file. In case you have more than one file per field you need to combine the pdf-files into a single file, as each field handles only one file. We do not accept zip-files, jpg or other image files. All pdf-files must be unlocked and allow binding and may not be password protected.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications.
The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.
If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process. Please note that only a shortlisted applicant will receive an assessment.
