Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | California, United States |
Position: | Visiting Assistant Professor |
The History Department at Pomona College invites applications for one-year visiting assistant professor (beginning fall 2020) in United States history with a specialization in African American, Native American, or gender/sexuality history. The department prefers a scholar grounded in pre-20th century history but will consider candidates from any period as long as there is a demonstrated ability to teach both halves of the U.S. survey. The qualified historian will teach five courses (the two surveys and three seminars of their choosing) and assist in advising students with their senior research projects. A PhD at time of appointment is required.
Pomona College and the Department of History support equal access to higher education. Fifty-two percent of our current cohort of first-year students (class of 2023) self-identify as domestic students of color, 11% are international, and 19% are first generation college students. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach and mentor exceptional students of diverse backgrounds—utilizing pedagogical practices that are rigorous, inclusive, and which advance academic equity.
Interested applicants should send a single PDF file which includes a letter of interest (detailing research focus and relevant teaching experience) and a curriculum vitae to HistorySearch@pomona.edu no later than Monday, March 16. Applicants who are selected for interviews will be asked to furnish letters of recommendation.
