Faculty Position, Islamic History

Habib University invites applications for positions in the History of the Islamic World. Specialization may be in any period or region of the Islamic world and/or Muslim communities elsewhere in the world including the Americas, Africa, and the Black Diaspora. The ability to teach Islamic Intellectual History in a comparative and global vein will be a plus. Depending on credentials and experience, candidates will be considered at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor as appropriate. Annual teaching load for Lecturers is 6 courses per year and for ladder faculty 5 courses annually. Candidates must be gifted teachers able to offer courses in the History of the Islamic World, and also help support the Habib Liberal Core (either by teaching in the Writing program and/or Habib’s core courses, particularly, Hikma I: History of Islamic Thought, and, What is Modernity?). Successful candidates will be committed scholar-mentors who can thrive in a student-centered undergraduate liberal arts institution, and will expected to be active participants in strengthening historical studies curricula and the Comparative Liberal Studies program.
