Assistant Professor of History - Tenure Track

he Texas A&M University-Texarkana History Department invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professorship in U.S. history (open period) with a preferred specialization in African-American history or gender history. Additional teaching fields are beneficial, especially in West African and public history, but not required. The successful candidate will be encouraged to take on a leadership role in the newly-launched Red River Center for Regional History and Culture. This position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position.
Teaching Duties: Teaching duties are 12 semester credit hours per semester (with potential release time for administrative duties) and can include offering both halves of the American history survey, upper level courses in nineteenth- and twentieth- century United States history (including Texas history), and graduate courses. The department has cultivated internship relationships across the region, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to participate and expand these opportunities.
Other duties: Participation in departmental, collegiate, and university activities and governance; student advising and mentorship; scholarly publication; professional and research activities.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in American (U.S.) History.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to develop courses in African-American, West African, or gender history. Clearly demonstrated interest or expertise with the digital humanities, public history, student mentorship, and experiential learning strategies.
