The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Arizona invites applications for the Jeffrey B. Plevan Chair in Israel Studies, tenure eligible, to begin August 2020. The Center seeks to appoint at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank. The Plevan Chair will be a notable scholar whose scholarship and teaching deal with Modern Israel Studies, broadly defined, who is committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, administrative leadership, and in local, national and international outreach. Knowledge of theoretical approaches used widely in the Humanities and Social Sciences and a commitment to interdisciplinary research and teaching are essential. The position carries a 2-2 teaching load as well as service and research requirements.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and a record of scholarly excellence in research, teaching and service/outreach as well as a desire to raise the visibility of Judaic Studies on campus and beyond. The Center is especially interested in candidates who will contribute to The University of Arizona's reputation for academic excellence and its commitment to prepare students for success in a pluralistic society.
