Department of Popular Culture and School for Cultural and Critical Studies, Bowling Green State University (Main Campus).
Department of Popular Culture and School for Cultural and Critical Studies invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Popular Culture in the School of Cultural and Critical Studies, with a specialization in the scholarly study of digital cultures. Start date is August 2020.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and teach courses on digital cultures (such as video games, social media, online fandoms)
- Teach courses in a secondary area of Popular Culture that complements current department offerings
- Teach courses that contribute to other departments/programs in the School of Cultural and Critical Studies (such as community-based learning, qualitative research methods, and/or interdisciplinary theory)
- Contribute to the M.A. program in Popular Culture and the Ph.D. degree in American Culture Studies through graduate courses and thesis/dissertation supervision
- Develop and implement a research agenda that leads to academic publications
- Provide service to university and profession
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a field related to Popular Culture Studies (for example, Media Studies, American Studies, or Cultural Studies) required. ABDs may apply but all the requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by time of employment (August 2020)
- Research focus or teaching experience in Digital Cultures (e.g., cultural studies of video games, social media, online fandoms)
- Experience teaching at collegiate level
- Evidence of productivity in research about the scholarly study of Digital Cultures (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, 2 or more regional or national conference presentations).
Preferred Qualifications
- University teaching experience as instructor of record
- Experience with on-line teaching
- Research or teaching expertise in Folklore Studies
- Peer-reviewed publication(s) about the scholarly study of Digital Cultures.
