Description:
The Mershon Center for International Security Studies invites applications for the endowed position of the Wayne Woodrow Hayes Chair in National Security Studies. The Mershon Center understands international security from a wide range of perspectives, approaches, and substantive foci. Consequently, successful applicants may come from a variety of disciplines, including anthropology, communications, economics, geography, history, law, philosophy, political science, public affairs/administration, public policy, psychology, sociology, and other disciplines that engage international security broadly conceived. The successful candidate will make an active contribution to our interdisciplinary program of research and public outreach on national and international security issues, including participation in the leadership of our interdisciplinary research cluster on American Foreign and Military Policy. The Chair will be appointed jointly in the Center and as a tenured professor in another academic unit and will have a significant reduction in teaching duties in order to support their research program.
The mission of the Mershon Center is to advance interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to international, national, and human security. The center supports and encourages interdisciplinary research and intellectual exchange across The Ohio State University and in collaboration with other institutions around the world. Over the past two years the center has supported faculty and students from more than a dozen different academic disciplines.
Qualifications:
A PhD is required for the position. Compelling candidates for the Chair will be rising or established scholars with widespread recognition and a distinguished record of publication and teaching related to issues of international security.
Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
