The Department of African American Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor. Areas of specialization are open, however we are particularly interested in scholars with expertise in the following fields: Afro-Latinx Studies, Popular Culture/Visual Culture, or The History of Slavery. Candidates should have the Ph.D. in hand or expected by August 2020. Degrees can be from interdisciplinary fields such as African American/Black Studies, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, Performance Studies, Communication Studies, etc. as well as disciplines including History, Literature, Sociology, Anthropology, and Political Science. UIC is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive University with 33,000 students in the heart of the city of Chicago. The department of African American Studies is part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with an undergraduate major and minor and a newly established graduate concentration.
