The History program in the School of Humanities at the University of Southern Mississippi invites qualified applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in History who will coordinate our undergraduate program in Social Studies Licensure to begin Fall 2020. The search is open to candidates specializing in any time period or geographic region with at least three years previous experience teaching history or social studies at the middle-school or high school level. The most diverse public university in the state of Mississippi, the University of Southern Mississippi is a student-centered research university located in the “hub” city of Hattiesburg, only 90 miles away from historic sites in New Orleans, Jackson, Mobile, Biloxi and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Responsibilities will include a 3/3 load teaching courses about issues and processes in social studies education. Additional duties include advising students, observing and assessing student teachers and preparing assessment reports for students enrolled in the Hattiesburg and Gulf Park campuses. Faculty are also expected to maintain an active research agenda. Promise of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service are expected. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
