The Department of History and Philosophy at Eastern Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship beginning fall 2020 in History and Social Studies Education. The successful candidate’s primary teaching responsibility will be Social Studies Methods for Secondary Education, and they will also be expected to teach history classes that complement the program’s current offerings.
Preference will be given to candidates with a field in Middle Eastern, Asian, or Native American History. Candidates will be expected to pursue an active research agenda, offer courses in teaching methods and history, and serve as a liaison with the College of Education. The position requires a Ph.D. in history or a related field from an accredited university (completed by August 2020) and experience teaching at the 6-12 level.
To be considered for the position, candidates should submit a cover letter that outlines their research interests and mentions courses the candidate would like to teach at the introductory, upper-division, and M.A. levels, a curriculum vitae, two course syllabi, and a chapter/article sized writing sample. The committee will collect letters of recommendation from candidates advancing to the second stage.
