The School for International Studies at Simon Fraser University seeks an established scholar for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to fill the Simons Chair in International Law and Human Security, a position endowed by The Simons Foundation Canada. The start date could be as early as July 1, 2020.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a social science discipline, or an SJD in law, and an outstanding record of research and teaching. The chairholder will be expected to carry out a vigorous program of research and teaching focused on the nexus of international law and human security, broadly defined. The chairholder will create new curriculum, provide intellectual leadership, and foster public understanding through conferences and symposia. The Chair is endowed with a research grant and a reduced teaching load of normally two courses per year. Appointment will be made at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending on qualifications.

The School for International Studies is an interdisciplinary unit with research and teaching programs focused on peace and security; international development; human rights and international law; and governance and civil society. The School is based at SFU’s Vancouver campus in the heart of downtown.
This is a senior level position. Only those holding a faculty position at the Associate Professor or Professor rank will be considered.
