Assistant Professor of Contemporary History

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Navarra seeks to fill a one year full-time, Assistant Professor position in Contemporary History, to begin September 2020. Depending on performance and mutual interests, the contract may be extended to a second year. Advanced candidates may eventually apply for tenure.
AOS: Contemporary History
AOC: Late Modern World History, European History, Atlantic Studies
The candidate will work in the Department of History, Art History, and Geography, a dynamic unit of 21 professors responsible for the Degree in History and its associated PhD program. With 4 research groups, two chairs and two scientific journals, the department has a strong reputation for research.
Candidates will have a PhD in History by the date of the commencement of the position. Part of the candidate's teaching will be on Core Curriculum subjects. Any previous experience in the teaching of Core Curriculum courses and knowledge of its principles (www.unav.edu/en/web/core-curriculum/what-is-it/principles) will be very positively considered. In light of these principles, the ideal candidate will appreciate the relevance of history in configuring individuals’ identities, demonstrate knowledge of Christianity and religion, and inspire in their students a reflective attitude to the present.
The candidate will teach in English both Spanish and international students in programs such as History, International Relations, PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) and Journalism Studies. Duties include teaching 2 or 3 courses per semester and assisting with program development. Candidates who can teach both in Spanish and English are especially encouraged.
Demonstrated research excellence or promise of research in his/her AOS is expected. The School of Humanities will take into consideration the successful candidate's ability to lead research or academic projects in his or her unit, to be genuinely committed to students and show a collaborative spirit with colleagues and administrative staff. Persons with administrative experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
