The History Department of Rutgers University-Camden seeks a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in the field of African American history. Specialization in the 19th or 20th century is preferred. Candidates must be able to teach survey courses on African American history spanning 1619 through the 21st century as part of the 2/2 teaching load, along with upper-level undergraduate courses and courses in our History M.A. program in the candidate’s area of specialization. We especially encourage applications from candidates with training and experience in public history and/or digital history who could contribute to the public history program of the History Department and the affiliated Mid-Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities (MARCH). Ideal candidates will demonstrate effectiveness in teaching a diverse student body.
Faculty appointment will begin in September 2020, and applicants must have the Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment. Rutgers-Camden is part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and faculty enjoy full access to the resources and libraries of an AAU and R1 institution. The successful applicant will be held to standards for tenure and promotion that are uniform on all three Rutgers campuses. Rutgers-Camden is located ten minutes from Center City Philadelphia and offers easy access to additional rich scholarly and cultural resources in the region.
