The Department of History at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mexican-American, Chicana/o/x, and/or U.S. – Mexico Borderlands history, 18th century to the present. We seek innovative scholars who take cultural, social, political, intellectual or other analytically exciting approaches to historical research. Specializations might include migration, human rights, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, political engagement, labor, economics, social justice, law, family, the arts, religion, history of science, community, transnational or education. Interdisciplinary approaches to research and teaching are welcomed. Evidence of potential for excellence in research and teaching required. Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and/or service-related activities is required. UNR has a strong and growing commitment to Latinx Studies. The successful candidate is encouraged to participate in the activities of the university’s Latino Research Center, the Gender, Race, and Identity Program, and the Alianza faculty association, as well as, History Department diversity initiatives.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory courses and specialized courses at the upper division and graduate level courses in the History Department. A 2-2.5 load is typical. (The .5 is typically fulfilled through heavily enrolled classes or mentoring senior theses.). Preference will be given to candidates who best fill the programmatic needs of the Department.
Required Qualifications
A PhD in history or related field must be completed by July 1, 2020.
A developing or established research agenda in Mexican-American, Chicana/o/x, and/or U.S. – Mexico Borderlands history.
Evidence of attention to diversity, equity and inclusion in research, teaching, and/or service.
Preferred Qualifications
Interdisciplinary approaches to research and/or teaching.
