The Department of History at Florida International University is searching for an Instructor who can develop and teach a sequence of Modern U.S. history courses that incorporate digital history methods. These may include methods for performing digital history research, such as digital mapping, large-scale text analysis, network analysis, and 3D modeling, as well as public-facing methods that use digital video production, podcasting, and social media. Topical specialization in the field of U.S. history is open but we especially welcome applications from candidates who are able to teach courses in African American, Latinx, Borderlands, indigenous/Native American history, women’s and/or gender history. We strongly encourage historically underrepresented minorities and people with experience in teaching diverse student populations to apply. The position includes opportunities for professional development leave, a path to promotion to senior and university instructor, and 1 or 2 course releases from the standard 4-4 load based on productivity related to enrollments, curriculum development as related to the digital humanities, and a role in training graduate students by hosting workshops and the like for our grad program. The person in this position will have the opportunity to work with one of FIU’s Emerging Preeminent Programs, the Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab (WPHL), on its Digital Projects with faculty, staff and students across the university.
