Dickinson College, Anthropology
Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology
|Institution Type:||College / University|
|Location:||Pennsylvania, United States|
The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at Dickinson College invites applications for a tenure track position of cultural anthropology. We seek a medical anthropologist with teaching and active field research specialization in Latin America.
The teaching load is five courses per year. In rotation with other department faculty, the candidate would teach required courses in the anthropology major: introduction to cultural anthropology and the senior colloquium. Elective courses will be in the candidate’s areas of specialization at the 200 and 300 levels. We are particularly interested in courses that emphasize quantitative methods, for our “Research in Anthropology” requirement. A candidate’s courses would ideally also contribute to interdisciplinary majors at the college, such as Latin American, Latino and Caribbean Studies, Health Studies, Environmental Studies, and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, as well as to college initiatives related to sustainability and civic engagement. The position will call for advising anthropology majors, and we are interested in candidates who may be able to involve students in field research and work with Dickinson’s Center for Global Study and Engagement.
Dickinson’s Department of Anthropology and Archaeology offers undergraduate majors and minors in both anthropology and archaeology and currently has 33 student majors. Our full-time faculty have research interests in cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, and archaeology and conduct research in North America, South America, East Africa, East Asia, and the Mediterranean. We emphasize student engagement in research through methods courses, our three laboratories—biological anthropology, environmental archaeology, and classical archaeology—and department-run field schools in cultural anthropology and archaeology.
