Oklahoma State University seeks a head of the Department of History at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, to represent the unit in an exciting time of growth and expansion. The appointment is full-time with an eleven-month contract and begins July 1, 2020, or as negotiated. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials. The Head reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: oversight of all fiscal, curricular, and personnel matters; programmatic and outreach development; partnering in fundraising efforts; and undergraduate and graduate teaching within an area of specialization. The Head will provide academic and fiscal leadership for a growing department that offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees in History and a MA degree in Public History. The Head will be a liaison to the university administration, the College of Arts and Sciences, the campus, and the community. The successful candidate will have a PhD in History or Public History; a record of successful teaching at the university level, a record of sustained scholarly excellence, and evidence of demonstrated leadership and/or administrative experience. Grant writing and fundraising experience is desired. The successful candidate will be able to cultivate within the department a multicultural perspective that is inclusive of underrepresented students.
