Franklin and Marshall College, American Studies
Assistant Professor of American Studies: LatinX Studies
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | Pennsylvania, United States |
Position: | Assistant Professor |
The American Studies Department at Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in LatinX Studies broadly defined. The rank will be Assistant Professor or Instructor, depending on qualifications, and will begin Fall 2020 on a 3/2 course load. We invite a wide range of LatinX Studies applicants who link their scholarship to the LatinX diaspora but who focus primarily on LatinX culture and society in the United States.
Several of our faculty offer courses in areas of media and popular culture, especially film, and we would like to broaden our curricular offerings beyond our current strengths. The successful candidate will teach an Introduction to LatinX Culture and Society, core American Studies courses, electives shared between American Studies and the Latin American Studies program, and courses in the College’s general education program, Connections.
Applicants should possess or be close to completing a doctorate. Candidates must submit the following materials via Interfolio (http://apply.interfolio.com/66402): cover letter, curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts, teaching statement, research statement, diversity statement, and teaching evaluations. Applicants must arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted directly to Interfolio by the recommenders. For full consideration, complete applications should be received by October 21, 2019.
The person selected for this tenure-track position may also be considered for a supplemental appointment as a Franklin & Marshall (Mellon) High Impact Emerging Scholar. These are scholars who possess outstanding promise for inspiring and supporting the educational development of underrepresented minority students in a higher education setting such as F&M. Selected finalists who meet these additional qualifications, in addition to those outlined by this ad, may be nominated by the department as an F&M (Mellon) High Impact Emerging Scholar. If selected as a M/HIES, the person will receive a two-year appointment (additional to the tenure-track appointment) that begins as soon as the person joins the campus on the tenure-track. The M/HIES program supports the acceleration of one's research trajectory with a significantly reduced teaching load for two years along with supportive mentoring to advance the scholar's research and professional development. Candidates interested in being considered for nomination should indicate their interest in their cover letter and highlight any previous work in this area in their diversity statement.
Pursuant to cultivating an inclusive college community, the search committee will holistically assess the qualifications of each applicant. We will consider an individual’s record working with students and colleagues with diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds. We will also consider experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to academic success.
