The Department of Sociology within the Division of Social Sciences at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are inviting applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor, open field, to begin July 1, 2020.
This is a teaching-focused position with potential security of employment. The Lecturer with Security of Employment (Teaching Professor) series parallels the professor series, but with emphasis upon excellence in teaching and scholarly activity related to teaching. An individual hired into this position will be expected to provide outstanding undergraduate teaching in the context of a large research university, as well as to engage in professional activity and service related to the pedagogical missions of the department and university. This appointment confers membership in the Academic Senate, and is “security of employment–track” in the same way that the Assistant Professor position is a “tenure-track” position.
Ph.D in Sociology or related field or equivalent is required prior to the start of appointment
Candidates should demonstrate
- outstanding professional achievement in the teaching of sociology
- superlative accomplishment in the classroom or other instructional settings
- university and public service, particularly related to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
