Modern China Or Korean Studies, Open Rank
|Institution Type:||College / University|
|Position:||Tenure Track Faculty|
The Faculty of Humanities at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Invites outstanding candidates to apply for tenure-track positions in the following fields:
Modern China (20 -21 centuries) or Korean Studies (all periods)
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem invites applications for a tenure-track position (open rank) in the Department of Asian Studies, with a specialization in (a) Modern China (20 -21 centuries) or (b) Korean studies (all periods).
The position is open to all candidates who have attained a Ph.D. degree, and to advanced doctoral students who expect to be granted their Ph.D. no later than June 30, 2020.
Responsibilities include the teaching of required and elective courses in the candidate’s field(s) of specialization (at the B.A. and M.A. levels). Successful candidates are expected to conduct independent and original research at the highest academic level based on sources in their original language, demonstrate academic leadership, compete for Israeli and international research grants, initiate and lead various activities in the Department’s China or Korea section, and work cooperatively with colleagues in the Faculty of Humanities and the University at large. Where pertinent, and in accordance with inter-departmental needs, a joint departmental appointment or teaching sharing arrangement may be considered.
The Hebrew University’s primary language of instruction is Hebrew. However, in the China section of the Asian Studies Department, courses at the M.A./Ph.D. levels are normally taught in English. Candidates should therefore be prepared to teach advanced courses in English. Candidates whose Hebrew proficiency is such that they would not be comfortable teaching in Hebrew will be encouraged to sufficiently master the language during the initial years following their appointment. Qualified candidates will be invited for a campus visit, which will include a job talk, an interview, and meetings with department members.
