The University of South Carolina Beaufort, through its new Institute for the Study of the Reconstruction Era, intends to appoint a residential Pre- or Post-Doctoral Fellow for the academic year 2019-2020.
Housed on the Historic Beaufort Campus, the Institute for the Study of the Reconstruction Era is an interdisciplinary center dedicated to promoting research and public engagement with the history of the post-Civil War Reconstruction era.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and healthcare benefits are included. The university will also provide housing in one of the elegant new Beaufort residence halls.
Initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility for renewal. Successful grant writing experience is preferred. An advanced degree and research focus centrally related to Reconstruction and/or 19th century US history is required. ABD candidates are eligible for appointment as Pre-Doctoral Fellow. Anticipated starting date is August 1, 2019.
The Fellow will be expected to assist the director in developing the intellectual and programmatic vision of the ISRE, including grant writing, event coordination, and managing the public presence of the ISRE. In addition, the Fellow will teach one course per semester in the USCB History program.
