The Department of History at Western Oregon University (WOU) invites applications for a non-tenure-track, Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin American History/ Latin@/Chican@ Studies, and North American Studies. All eras of specialization will be considered; candidates whose work includes Public History or Environmental Studies are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will teach the U.S. History survey sequence, including a bilingual section in twentieth-century US History instructed in Spanish. The position also requires the instruction of upper-division chronological courses in Mexican, Caribbean, and Latin & South American History, and/or Latin@/Chican@ Studies. Candidates will also have opportunity to develop upper-level course(s) in their own specialization. The visiting faculty will also mentor senior History majors who are completing their senior thesis in these fields. This position supports a variety of interdisciplinary majors, minors, and programs across campus including International Studies, Latin American Studies, Latin@/Chican@ Studies, and the Bilingual Teacher Scholar program. The position begins September 16, 2019 and will be a full-time appointment for Fall 2019, Winter 2020, and Spring 2020.
We are not considering candidates who require Visa sponsorship support. Additionally, the university typically only considers visa support for employees placed in specialized positions that are continuing regular university appointments.
- Ph.D in History (ABD will be considered for application, but all degree requirements must be completed by September 16, 2019)
- College level teaching experience required, instructor of record preferred
