The Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Dickinson College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor for the academic year 2019-2020. PhD in women's, gender, and/or sexuality studies preferred (ABD may be considered); applicants with a PhD in other disciplines or interdisciplinary fields with strong training in intersectional gender studies will also be considered. Ability to teach core introductory courses in women's, gender and sexuality studies required, including feminist methods and sexuality studies. The candidate would also teach topical elective courses in their areas of expertise; area of specialization is open, but transnational and global courses would be highly desired. Teaching load is five courses per year.
Dickinson College is a highly selective four-year, independent liberal arts college with 2300 students. It is located 20 minutes west of Harrisburg, PA, and is a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Washington DC, and Philadelphia. The Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies department is an interdisciplinary program designed to give students an understanding of a range of women's and gendered experiences, centering differences based on class, race, culture or ethnic origin, religion, age, ability, gender identity, and sexual identity. We expect a strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
