The Department of History at Bates College seeks a Lecturer in Chinese History for the 2019-2020 academic year, to teach four courses (80% load) over two semesters (fall and winter). Courses include a one-semester survey covering the broad sweep of Chinese history, a 200-level course on modern Chinese history, and two thematic courses drawing on the successful candidate's own specialization, as well as senior thesis advising. The area of expertise is open, though we especially welcome applications from candidates who can advise theses on modern China.

Preference will be given to candidates who will have completed by August 1, 2019 their Ph.D. in History, East Asian Languages & Cultures, or a related field.
