The Department of American Studies invites applications for a 1-year Visiting Assistant Professorship in American Studies, beginning August 21, 2019. This is a non-tenure track position. The teaching load is six courses over the academic year: an introduction to American Studies (fall), comparative ethnic studies and diversity in American culture (both semesters), an introduction to popular culture (fall), a lecture course on food in America (spring), and the capstone senior seminar that draws on the candidate’s own areas of focus (spring). We are interested in all research areas in American Studies but with special priority to candidates in African American studies, Latino/a/x studies, critical race theory, and the cultural study of food.

A PhD in American Studies or comparable interdisciplinary training must be in hand by the start of the appointment. Teaching experience, research, or coursework in American Studies is required, and the ability to teach ethnic studies and/or the cultural study of food as well as experience as a lecturer in a class of over 50 students is desirable.
