The History Department of the University of Arizona invites applications for a full-time, 3-year position for a Career-Track Assistant Professor to serve as Director of the Public History Collaborative, a new project to advance the collaborative production of history among faculty, students, and the residents of Arizona. We seek a creative historian with an interest in engaging with various individuals, communities, and organizations across and outside the university using digital, applied, and public history. This will be a twelve month appointment, with a workload divided between teaching (40%, two/two load), scholarship of engagement (10%), and service (50%, including the administration of the collaborative).
The Director will launch and lead the Collaborative, manage its day-to-day activities, and help develop, plan, implement, create, and support its teaching and research projects. The public face of the Collaborative, the Director must be able to handle diverse duties and oversee a number of projects simultaneously, including developing programming and seeking external funding. We are especially interested in applicants with a record of success in collaborative settings (not necessarily academic). They should have significant and acclaimed teaching experience (high school and/or university), especially in experiential learning, project-based teaching, or other innovative pedagogies, and should possess the skills required for public, applied, or digital history. We prefer applicants who have produced historical work of recognized excellence and have experience in fundraising, grant writing, and project management.
A PhD in History or related discipline is required at the time of application; the field of historical expertise is open.

- Completed historical work of recognized excellence
