The Department of Chicana/o Studies at the University of California, Davis invites applicants for an assistant rank position with a specialization in Education and Chicana/o Studies. Candidates are sought with strong emergent research agendas examining the educational system in relation to structural, political, economic, gender, race, and cultural inequities. The department seeks scholars with a strong community-based and social justice practice and inter/transdisciplinary methodologies that are engaged in critical, liberatory, decolonial and radical pedagogies. Candidates whose work is community engaged praxis are encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in delivering undergraduate and graduate level curriculum in Chicana/o Studies and/or Education with potential to teach emergent and interdisciplinary methodologies in the field of Chicana/o and Ethnic Studies. The department seeks scholars who have an interest in developing a new curricular track in Chicana/o Studies. Chicana/o Studies is deeply invested in undergraduate education. Successful candidates will be part of a collective effort to launch a graduate education program. A Ph.D. in Chicana/o Studies or related field must be completed by the first day of courses (September 23, 2019).
This position is funded through a UC Davis Hiring Investment Program effort. It is one of two funded positions to develop curricular and intellectual collaborations between the School of Education and the Chicana/o Studies Department. These positions are expected to work together to bridge the School of Education faculty (SOE) to the Chicana/o Studies Department. The purpose of the cluster hire is to recruit candidates with a strong Community Based Participatory Research and Youth Participatory Action research agendas.
