Applications are invited for appointment as tenure-track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in American Studies in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (Ref.: 492658), to commence in August 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in a related discipline (e.g. cultural studies, history, literature, political science, sociology, and media studies) with a specialization in American Studies or a Ph.D. degree in American Studies itself. The appointee is expected to have a strong research profile in American Studies. He/She will teach and supervise at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the American Studies Program. Candidates with administrative experience are encouraged to apply as the successful applicant may be invited to direct the American Studies Program. Applicants should demonstrate a capacity in their research and teaching to link American Studies to other areas of studies in the School (African, China, European, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and/or Global Creative Industries). A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
