CLAFLIN UNIVERSITY, founded in 1869, is the oldest historically black college or university in the state of South Carolina. In US News and World Report, Claflin University was rated in the “Top Tier” for the tenth consecutive year among Baccalaureate Colleges in the South and also ranked the University for the Third Highest Graduation Rate in the South.
REPSONSIBILITIES: Claflin University invite applicants to apply for a Assistant or Associate Professor of History position in the Department of Humanities. The department is seeking an innovative and visionary scholar who is proficient in the area of colonial U.S. history; Latino/Latina history; or European History and broadly American and African American historical studies as well. He/she will teach courses such as introductory topics and upper-division course that can be grounded in the candidates’ research and teaching interests. The department encourages faculty participation in interdisciplinary programs and provide guidance in developing the curriculum and departmental programs, advising students and other duties within the scope of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess experience in college level teaching and advising. The candidate must have earned a Ph.D. in History from an accredited institution. Demonstrated experience in teaching is required. Candidates with broad training in U.S. history; Latino/Latina history; or European History are preferable. Additionally, the Department of Humanities seeks to grow its Public History offerings and encourages candidates in the field of Public History with expertise in Museum or Archival Studies.
SALARY: Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
