The Department of Design and Communication at the University of Southern Denmark, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for a position as associate professor in Library Science and Knowledge Communication. The educational program is located at the university's campus in Kolding and the position is available from September 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Department of Design and Communication is a humanistic department with a strong interdisciplinary orientation which offers a broad range of study programs in the areas of communication, design, IT, information studies and tourism. Applicants are expected both to support and develop the department's bachelor program in Library Science and Knowledge Communication and to contribute to the inter- and transdisciplinary research atmosphere at the department.
The applicant is expected to have strong qualifications within at least 2 of the following 4 areas:
- Public libraries
- Libraries, information and society
- Users and use studies
- Media and genre studies
Applicants must document:
- Substantial scientific and high-level research (documented, for instance, by peer-reviewed publications within the areas of documentation and information research or library science
- Pedagogical skills and teaching experience
- Practical experience from library, archive or documentation sector is not required but would be highly welcomed.
The position involves among other tasks:
- Teaching, particularly in the department's BA program in Library Science, but also within related programs such as the BA program in Information Science, IT and Interaction Design and the Master program in Web Communication
- Active participation in at least one of the department's research programmes (cf. http://www.sdu.dk/Om_SDU/Institutter_centre/Idk/Forskning )
- Contributions to the development of both new research and study programmes within the fields of information, documentation and web communication
- Initiation for and participation in applications for external funding.
Appointment as associate professor presupposes scientific qualifications corresponding to the requirements of this position at university level.
The applicant is expected to hold a PhD degree within a field relevant for the above-mentioned qualifications. For the associate professorship teaching skills and a pedagogical base knowledge are required matching the qualifications typically acquired during an assistant professorship including a practical course in higher education didactics (corresponding to the "adjunktpædagogikum" of the Danish University system/ professional postgraduate teacher training).
International staff is expected to be able to teach in Danish after a two-year period.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months. Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations regarding related degree programmes.

Applicants for an associate professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Please read more here.

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the committee will assess whether you are qualified to be an Assistant Professor. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.
When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications.
If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
