The History Department at Austin College invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in United States History to 1876, beginning in August 2019. Teaching load (3-1-3-calendar, including a January term) will alternate between seven and six courses per year. Position is conceptualized chronologically as covering from pre-colonization through reconstruction. Responsibilities for this position will include teaching the one-semester History of Texas course and teaching history courses appropriate for Austin College’s Foundational and Advanced Writing Program. Field of major specialty open. Ability to teach history of the environment, gender, minority groups, public health, or the southwest and Mexico welcome. Candidates must have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. by September 1, 2019. A commitment to teaching is of high priority, and evidence of successful undergraduate teaching experience is required.
