The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations of the University of Chicago is accepting applications for a one-year, renewable Lecturer appointment in modern Korean language to start in academic year 2019-20, with a start date of September 1, 2019.
Responsibilities include both teaching and service duties. Teaching consists of six language courses across three quarters at all levels of the language. Service duties may include training of course assistants; outreach and cultural activities; or overseeing placement of non-heritage speakers.
Applicants are required to have at least one year of previous language teaching experience at the college or post-secondary level. A M.A. degree or equivalent is required. A Ph.D. in a related field is desirable. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient proficiency for teaching Korean in a university context, e.g. through an ACTFL-certified result at the Superior level or higher, or through receipt of an advanced degree earned in a Korean-language context.
