The Liberal Arts Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) (http://www.qatar.tamu.edu/) invites applications for the position of Instructional Assistant Professor in United States history at our campus in Doha, Qatar, with an anticipated starting date of August 15, 2019. Required Education and Experience
The applicant's primary responsibility will be teaching two required survey courses in U.S. history (to and from 1865). Additional area of expertise is open, but we particularly invite applications with experience or expertise in U.S. Foreign Policy, Race and Ethnicity, or World History. The 9-month contract includes a minimum 3-3 teaching load. Summer teaching opportunities may be available depending on need. Applicants must complete all requirements for a Ph.D. by the time of the start date. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level. Preference will be given to applicants familiar with the U.S. higher education system and with experience teaching in the Middle East. The successful candidate is eligible for generous funds for professional development.

Texas A&M University at Qatar is a partnership with Qatar Foundation, and is based in a new, state-of-the-art, 595,000 square foot building that was completed in 2007 TAMUQ offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical, Electrical and Computer, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering and a Master Program in Chemical Engineering. The degree programs are identical to those of the main campus at College Station, Texas. A Texas A&M University diploma is awarded to graduates. Doha, Qatar is the home of Education City (http://www.qf.org.qa/home), a dedicated campus devoted to research and education. In addition to TAMUQ, Education City hosts other academic institutions including Weill Cornell Medical School, Carnegie-Mellon University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Northwestern University, University College London, and Georgetown University. Together with Texas A&M, these institutions host a large number of faculty in the arts and humanities who come together for seminars and collaborative projects. As an international institution of higher learning, TAMUQ and its partners in Education City have significantly contributed to the development of post-secondary education and cultural growth in Qatar.
Texas A&M Qatar attracts some of the best high school graduates in the region and this results in an annual freshman enrollment of approximately 100 undergraduate students and a total college enrollment of about 550. All of these students must take two courses in U.S. History as a part of their core curriculum requirements. The Liberal Arts Program has 16 faculty members, including two historians, with supporting administrative and research staff. Faculty members have a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. The program benefits from state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation in support of its key educational and research missions. The faculty have established strong educational and research programs on a foundation of core engineering disciplines. The program continues to be refreshed in terms of its curriculum and research to meet local and global needs. The Program follows the Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas program and the Diploma are valued as such. This position is in Doha and the successful candidate must relocate to Qatar.
Salary and Benefits:
TAMUQ offers a very competitive salary package commensurate with rank and experience. The package includes 9-month salary, overseas salary premium, housing, annual home leave allowances, dependent education, local transportation allowance, medical insurance for employee and dependents, bursary allowing travel to U.S. and/or international conferences, plus appropriate relocation and repatriation expenses.
