Lecturer in Contemporary Art

The Department of History of Art at UCL is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Contemporary Art to begin on 1 September 2019 (this position is equivalent to the position of Assistant Professor in the North American academic system). The successful candidate will join a thriving department known for its commitment to critical theory and innovative approaches to the study of histories of art and visual culture, as well as for its shared interests in visual technologies, materials and materiality, and urban and public space. The department has close links to London's museum and gallery network and is situated in a university with its own important collections.
The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop new directions for thinking about contemporary art as well as an engagement with current critical and theoretical debates. S/he will have a track record of publications and research excellence in post-1980 art understood in relation to historical and geo-political debates in the field. We seek applicants who will complement but not duplicate areas of expertise that are already well represented in the department. Applicants should have a relevant PhD or equivalent.
The appointee will contribute to teaching, take on administrative responsibility, be research active and generate research grant income by actively pursuing and applying for appropriate research grants.
