ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Designed to inspire the next generation of global leaders, the Schwarzman Scholars program is the most significant of its kind since the Rhodes Trust was founded in 1902. With a $600 million endowment, it will also be the single largest philanthropic effort ever undertaken in China by largely international donors.
The 100-200 scholars chosen annually for this highly selective program will work towards a one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing—one of China’s most prestigious universities. POSITION SUMMARY
Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University is recruiting for five visiting faculty positions:
Johnson & Johnson Faculty Chair in Leadership, Bank of America Merrill Lynch Visiting Chair in International Finance; Citi Chair in International Business; Disney Faculty Chair in Global Media; and Volkswagen Faculty Chair in Sustainability.
Each full-time position will be given to one individual with a term of one semester to two years and competitive pay, including residence in a faculty apartment at Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University and access to research funds.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chairs shall work full-time at Tsinghua University and teach at Schwarzman College, and shall have no other full-time obligations outside of Tsinghua University.
We are seeking expert scholars in contemporary global issues including leadership, business and economics,
international finance, global media and communications, and sustainability including energy policy. We are seeking excellent teachers and scholars with an interdisciplinary focus who are able to take a leave of absence from their current academic positions for up to two years. The Visiting Chair will teach one or more eight-week module course in the program (depending on length of stay) and may be asked to speak at one or more appropriate and mutually convenient company or college events. Research funding for collaborative research between foreign and Tsinghua faculty may be available to support the Chair’s scholarly research and career development.
In addition to teaching at least one course per academic year, the Chair shall also assume the
following duties:
1. Advising students on capstone projects and writing;
2. Serve on committees (academic, faculty life, etc.) while in residence;
3. Organizing workshops and public lectures for students;
4. Actively participating in academic activities of the Schwarzman College; and
5. Assuming all other duties that Tsinghua University specifies for full-time faculty.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications and credentials will be considered in appointing the Chair:
1. Prominent scholar and recognized expert with a strong record of teaching, research, and
publications at the associate or full professor level (Distinguished practitioners with relevant
expertise will also be considered);
2. For candidates who are Chinese citizens currently based in China, significant time spent
outside of China, such as studying and working;
3. Fluency in English (for purposes of teaching, research, and communications);
4. A doctoral degree in relevant areas of global affairs including business, economics, public
policy, political economy, international relations, public health, public affairs, social sciences
and the humanities, or other relevant fields. International experience and knowledge, as well
as experience working in or on China, are helpful. Educational background in the United States
and/or Europe is preferred.
