The Department of History at the University of Toledo invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position specializing in the history of race, imperialism, and empire in colonial/post-colonial sub-Saharan Africa. The new faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate survey and upper-division courses and graduate courses in African History, European History, and Empire Studies and to advise and direct graduate student theses. We're seeking a cutting-edge historian who will publish exciting new work in peer-reviewed venues and who will add to the faculty another research active scholar capable of advising and teaching History doctoral students. The University of Toledo is a comprehensive public research university in Northwest Ohio. The department of history offers undergraduate and graduate degrees (B.A., M.A., Ph.D.).
We are particularly interested in applicants working on projects in African and European History, especially on colonialism, empire or imperialism, and race in conjunction with nation-building. The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong research agenda and employ innovative teaching methods. In addition, preferred qualifications include experience mentoring underrepresented minority students. Qualified applicants will be expected to have a Ph.D. in History completed by August 1, 2019.
