Tarleton State University, a member of the Texas A&M System, invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of History. The successful candidate will teach four courses in both the fall and spring semesters for the newly organized Department of History, Sociology and Geography. In addition, the successful candidate will engage in campus service, advising, and scholarly activities within the field. This position begins September 1, 2019. We expect that the successful candidate will help us through teaching one or both sections of our two-semester World History sequence (HIST 2321 and HIST 2322).
Candidates with teaching and research specialties in African, Islamic World, Mediterranean world, or Indian Ocean History are particularly encouraged to apply. We are also keenly interested in candidates who bring global or transnational approaches to the study of science, religion, social thought or European empire and colonialism broadly conceived. A strong commitment to teaching world history survey courses, special topics courses in more specific areas of expertise, and evidence of scholarly potential are expected. The chosen applicant will be expected to pursue an active research agenda and to serve the department and the university as required.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D. (ABD status may be considered as long as all degree requirements, including dissertation, defense of dissertation, and comprehensive examinations have been successfully completed by time of appointment for the Fall 2019 semester. Evidence of emergent scholarly output in the candidate’s research field. A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching at a student-centered university.
Preferred Qualifications:
Field of specialization is open but we have preferences for candidates with specializations in African, Islamic World, Mediterranean world, or Indian Ocean History, and/or European Empire as it pertains to one of these areas. Experience as classroom teacher in world history survey courses. A demonstrated ability to obtain outside research fellowships and grants. Experience with digital learning platforms and online teaching
