The History Department at Saint Peter’s University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in fall of 2019. The Department seeks a candidate whose research and teaching focus on any region in the world prior to 1700, including ancient history. We are searching for an exceptionally gifted teacher/scholar who can translate her or his historical knowledge into engaging classroom experiences. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. and evidence of teaching excellence and a research agenda. The successful applicant will be expected to teach both sections of the core curriculum and electives in his or her area of research. Finally, we invite applications from candidates who share our commitment to educating students to excel intellectually, lead ethically, serve compassionately and promote justice in our ever-changing urban and global environment.

Saint Peter’s main campus is located in Jersey City, the second largest and the most diverse city in New Jersey. The campus is easily accessible by car or public transportation and is minutes from the Journal Square PATH train (via campus shuttle, city bus, taxi, or walking). This station is a major hub connecting Jersey City with Newark and Hoboken, and with New York City, a global center of culture, business, and professional opportunities. Saint Peter’s at the Meadowlands campus is located in Lyndhurst near major highways (New Jersey Turnpike, Routes 3 and 17).
