Kyungpook National University (KNU) is one of the top-level national government-supported universities in Korea. The Department of History at KNU is one of the largest history departments in Korea, with teaching and research notable for its disciplinary range and geographical scope.(http://knuhistory.cafe24.com/eng/) The Department of History invites qualified applicants to apply for the following position.
1. Position and Field (Assistant professor under the tenure track system, full time)
1) Department: History
2) Field of Speciality: History of East Asia, especially in global and/or transnational historical context
3) Number: 1
4) Additional Information: Foreign nationals (Non-Korean Citizens)
2. Educational responsibilities
Courses in East Asian History (Korean, Chinese, Japanese History), History of East Asia in global and/or transnational context, courses at Graduate School of History Department in the same area
3. Qualifications
1) Applicants must hold a PhD degree in History or a closely related field.
2) Applicants must be foreign nationals (non-Korean citizens)
3) Experiences in Korea and Korean language are optional, but also positive factors.
4. Applicants are required to submit the following documents:
1) Curriculum Vitae
2) Lists of scholarly publications (peer reviewed original papers and others should be separated) and research grants obtained
3) Copy of transcripts and degree certificates for BA, MA, PhD
4) Copy of certificates for education and research career
5) Copies of whole publications, including Ph.D dissertation with the designation of at least a representative publication
6) Summaries of past research and educational activities (approx. 1,000 and 600 words, respectively)
7) Future plan for research and education (approx. 1,000 and 600 words, respectively)
8) 3 letters of recommendation
9) CD, DVD or USB memory containing above information(1-8) in PDF files
5. Salary
As a national university of Korea, the annual salary of a faculty member in tenured track is based on the Korean government salary system. In accordance with the system, new foreign professors have received an average salary of 64,000,000KRW per year in the last two years. Nevertheless, the final salary will be determined along with applicant’s overall academic performance. In addition to the annual salary, tenured-track professors can get incentives and extra financial supports including accommodation, based on his/her achievements and research projects.
