The Liberal Arts Department of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design seeks applicants for a position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor to begin full-time in August 2019. Successful candidates will have demonstrated expertise in critical and historical approaches to established and emerging digital and interdisciplinary media studies and art and design practices and the ability to draw connections across the liberal arts and studio curricula which may include web and multi-media, photography, filmmaking, installation, fine arts, and community practice.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate knowledge of current and emerging trends in media studies with demonstrated engagement in the cultural, political, and ethical implications of race, gender, sexuality, social class, and social practice. Full-time faculty members are required to teach three courses each semester and participate in committee work and other departmental and college activities required of faculty. MCAD offers renewable, long-term contracts based on a clearly defined peer-review process.
MCAD’s Liberal Arts curriculum has a two-fold purpose: to provide intellectual and historical context for students’ studio educations, and to provide broader cultural, social and philosophical instruction relevant to all students seeking professional careers and responsible citizenship. One-third of the undergraduates’ course load is in Liberal Arts. The curriculum provides foundational instruction in writing and in art and design history. A broad variety of upper level courses fill out art, design, and other histories of the studio majors of the college, while other upper level courses serve to meet the college’s distribution requirements for studies in the humanities and related sciences. The department offers Art History, Creative Writing, and Engaged and Public Arts minors.
Candidates must have a PhD or MFA in media studies or a related discipline, demonstrated teaching experience (minimum 3 years), and a record of publication, critical writing, curating, and/or scholarship.
